PURPOSE, VISION & VALUES
Future Health Africa is a UK-based charity which strives for sustainable improvement in the health and wellbeing of people in low-middle-income countries (LMICs). Through sharing skills, we hope to transform lives, relieve suffering and reduce poverty.
Wherever we work, we collaborate with local communities, governments and other groups.
Our volunteers all work, or have worked, in the UK National Health Service (NHS) or are Kenyans working in government facilities. They are all committed to reducing inequity in healthcare and want to make their personal contribution to the achievement of the internationally agreed Sustainable Development Goals.

PROJECTS IN BRIEF
The Trauma Team tackles disability and poverty, caused by injuries, through surgical projects which offer patients diagnosis, surgery and rehabilitation. Team members train local staff through side-by-side working.
Since 2011 we have helped Nanyuki Hospital with equipment and training and even trained community staff in First Aid. We continue to support the department with Quality Improvement projects and specific Emergency Medicine expertise.
GRASPIT teaches healthcare staff how to recognise and deal with acutely ill or deteriorating ‘sick patients’ to prevent avoidable death and disability. It trains local staff to continue to train others. It is now entirely Kenyan delivered with support from the UK lead.
Quality Improvement & Leadership. The q4a (Quality for All) faculty delivers the SPRINGBOARD programme through which frontline healthcare staff are empowered to improve their own ‘sick systems’ to enable them to deliver safer and better quality of care. They learn ‘The Science of Improvement and the Art of Leadership’ through doing live quality improvement (QI) projects.
Community / Primary Care Development. We provide technical assistance to NGOs and Ministries of Health to improve health outcomes through the provision of primary healthcare in remote areas.
Improving Maternity Care. Our team of midwives works with communities and health facilities to reduce death and disability for mothers and babies.
Team Talk encourages rural children to stay at school, challenges gender stereotypes and highlights the importance of sexual health. Playing tag rugby is the fun approach to this and follow-on mentoring supports the work.
Bursaries. If funds allow, we offer opportunities for individuals to broaden their experience and progress their careers.
Storytelling / theatre facilitation. A new project is currently under development to assist with improved health and wellbeing in young teenagers, building confidence and improving attendance and performance at school. Watch this space…
