WHERE AND HOW WE WORK

WHERE WE WORK

Our principle is to work where we are invited in low-middle-income countries, thereby ensuring local engagement and increasing the chances of project success. To date all our work has taken place in Kenya but all our projects are transferable to other environments, in Africa or on other continents. (Click on the locations in the descriptions below to open that location in Google Maps)

Community work (including midwifery) has taken place in Laikipia, Meru, Isiolo, Samburu and Marsabit counties.

Trauma Team has worked in Nanyuki, Mombasa, Kitale, Nyahururu and Marsabit County Hospitals.

GRASPIT has been delivered to thousands of health workers in Kenyatta National Hospital, Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Kitale, Mombasa (Coast General and MEWA hospitals), Nyeri, Kisumu, Karatina, Kajiado and Marsabit. ‘Train the Trainers’ courses have also been delivered in each place to ensure sustainability.

SPRINGBOARD has been delivered in Nanyuki and Nyahururu hospitals and in Kwale Eye Centre to participants from Laikipia hospitals and the County Government. Individuals from other organisations have also attended including Kenyatta National Hospital, Kisumu County Government, Kisumu County Hospital, Red Cross, Centre for Health Solutions & Jacaranda Health. UK participants have also benefited.  We have also delivered QI and leadership training in community settings in Migori county and Laikipia North.

Our partnership with St Joseph’s Mission Hospital and Trauma Centre in Kisumu county will increase our geographical reach and deliver its first projects in 2023. We are also working with Kisii University and County Hospital to identify area for collaboration.

CORE VALUES

Our Core Values (pdf 336kb) are very important to us and we work closely with LMIC partners to ensure that what we are doing is context appropriate in every way.

Partnership and collaborative working are key strategies and we work with many organisations in addition to the locations where we are delivering our projects.

ALIGNMENT

We ensure that our work is co-designed with local people and that it is aligned with in-country and in-county policy and strategy.  We check with our local advisors that all our work is context appropriate.

We research international literature to maintain an understanding of the wider issues relating to our projects.

Where appropriate, our projects work together eg

  • Trauma Team, GRASPIT, Quality Improvement & Leadership

  • Community, Maternity

GOVERNANCE

We take governance very seriously in terms of how we run the charity, run our projects and manage our volunteers.  Volunteers are issued with a handbook and are asked to sign a volunteer agreement.

A full insight into this can be found in our Governance Handbook (pdf 1.3mb).
